The Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering kicked off this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. Spectators were able to gain a glimpse into cowboy life on the cattle drives as the streets of the Fort Worth Stockyard came alive like in the days of the Old West with the chuck wagons, a youth fiddle competition, cowboy music and poetry.
Sixteen chuck wagon teams came to compete in the hope of taking home some of the $4,500 in prize money. Robertson Wagon was awarded Overall Wagon. Cliff Tienert Most Authentic Wagon went to Butch Hester Wagon. In the authentic meals category, Robert Wagon won for meat, O'Neal Wagon won for dessert, and Jewett Gap Wagon won both bread and beans.
A little rain didn't slow the rodeo action down as fans packed the stands of the historic Cowtown Coliseum. Mikki Daniels, Kristyn Harriss, and Hailey Sandoz kicked off each performance with their moving rendition of "God Bless America". Flying V Cross Ranch won the aggregate in team doctoring and wild cow milking, Nail Ranch won the aggregate in sorting, Saunders Ranch won the aggregate in stray gathering and maverick branding, and Bond Ranch won the aggregate in saddle bronc riding. First place overall team went to K.W. Cattle Company, second place went to Green Land & Cattle, third to Flying V Cross Ranch, and fourth to Saunders Ranch. John C Brian of Saunders Ranch was awarded Top Horse and Tallen Miller of K.W. Cattle Company was awarded Top Hand.
