North Texas High School Rodeo Association Finals



We can tell you one thing for certain after attending The North Texas High School Rodeo Association Finals held last weekend at the historic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, the future of rodeo is looking good! These kids came ready to competed and the talent was stacked high.

In round 1, Lane Whitt showed he is going to be a force to be reckoned with once he hits the pro circuit by tying the arena record held by Roy Duvall with his quick 2.973 second run in the bulldogging and third in the chute dogging with a 3.071 second run. Another one you are going to want to watch out for is Jesse Olson. If that name sounds familiar it's because this young man made a name for himself at the Hooey Jr. Patriot Rodeo when he took first in the finals with a 4.96 second run. Olson took first in Round 1 of the chute dogging with a 2.976 second run and second in the steer wrestling behind Whitt with a 6.675 second run. In round two, Whitt dominated in the chute dogging with his 2.739 second run for first. Jesse Olson took first in the steer wrestling with his 3.9 second run. In the average, Whitt beat out Olson by seven points to take first in the chute dogging and steer wrestling. You're going to want to keep an eye on these two.


Another athlete that was strong in the finals was Kash Loyd. He took first in round 1 with an 87 point ride and first in round 2 with a 67 point ride. He was also the only rider to have a qualified ride in round 2. He also took first in the average. There was a bit of a tense moment on Saturday when one of the riders was bucked off on the opposite side of this hand and dragged for a stretch around the arena. He was able to get up after a few minutes and was helped out of the arena by medical personnel.

Hevenli Scribner took first in round 1 of barrel racing with her 13.691 second run, just barely beating out Addison Webster who took second with a 13.784. In round 2, Bayler Smith took first with her 13.670 second run, just edging out Madeleine Moll who took second with her 14.096 second run. Bayler Smith took first in the average with 70 points and Annabella McNelly took second with 63 points. McNelly placed tenth in round 1 with her 14.488 second run and third in round two with her 14.104 second run.


Round 1 of the breakaway roping was a bit tough on the cowgirls, with only four able to have clean runs. Cainlee Dale took first with her quick 2.665 second run and Kodi Belle Herron took second with her 3.007 second run. The only other two athletes to place that round were Paige Bunero, who took third with a 13.814, and Alicia Parker, who has a 15.125 second run. In round 2, the girls had more luck with 9 ladies placing. Kayleigh Howell took first with a fast 2.454 second run. Cterling Hopkins took second with her 2.465 second run. Paige Bunero took first in the average with 17.743 on two head. Alicia Parker took second for 31.571 on two head.


The bulls were not making anyone's day easy in either round. In round 1, Colton Phillips took first with a 79 point ride, which was also the only qualified ride. In round 2, there was also only one qualified ride which was Mason Heavener's 75 point ride. Phillips took first in the average followed by Hevener. There was another scary moment Saturday when a bull landed on a riders head post buck off. Thankfully due to the helmet the rider was ok but he was unable to capitalize on the re-re-ride.


In the calf roping, Davon Eakin took first in round 1 with a quick 8.648 second run. Cade Belew came in second with his 11.020 second run. Eakin took first again in the round 2 with an 11.077 second run to take first in the average. Tristen Aguirre took second with his 12.142 second run.


Rylee Rickabaugh and Corley Tilson showed up strong in both the goat tying on foot and on horseback. In round 1, Rickabaugh took first on horseback with an 8.086 second run and took eighth on foot with a 21 second run. In round 2, she placed fourth on horseback with a 9.5 second run and first on foot with a quick 6.522 second run. Corley Tilson took first on foot in round 1 with her 7.907 second run and first in round 2 on horseback. In the average, Rickabaugh took first on horseback and Tilson took first on foot.

In the poles, Hevenli Scribner took first in round 1 with a 21.356 second run with Jewel Modkins coming in a close second with her 22.032 second run. In round 2, Kodi Belle Herron took first with a 20.749 second run and Modkins took second again with a 21.397. Modkins took first in the average. Jewelia Tolerson took second. Tolerson took fifth in round 1 and fifth in round 2.


Christopher Davis took first in round 1 of the ribbon roping with an 8.176 second run with Cade Belew taking second with his 8.874 seond run. Belew took first in round 2 with his 7.395 second run. Cameron Bailey took second with an 8.837 second run. Belew took first in the average. Kyley Kenley took second. Kenley took fourth in round 1 with a 13.103 second run and third in round 2 with a 9.138 second run.



In round 1 of the team roping, Blake Rogers & Kaleb Same took first with their 11.167 second run. Kyleigh Howell & Kodi Belle Herron took second wit their 11.830 second run. Shane McCulloch & Walker Parkey took first in round 2 with their 12.113 second run. Bailey Cameron & Mason Clater took second with their 12.598 second run. McCulloch & Parkey took first in the average for 29.954 on two head. Rogers & Same took second for 37.382 on two head.



Saylor Walters was awarded Miss NTHSRA. Emerson Denoon was the first runner up and Farran Reynolds was second runner up. Lucchesse Rinlee was awarded Rising Star. Bralie Stovar was awarded True Grit. Morgan Rogers was given the Kay Gay award.
