Thermopolis has a rich rodeo history dating back to 1895. Over the years the rodeo grow and became more professionally organized. In 1935 the Thermopolis Rodeo Association was created and it quickly gained popularity in the rodeo world. Although the focus shifted from pro to youth and high school athlete in the 1970-80's, by 2004 the demand to bring back the PRCA rodeo lead to the Thermopolis Cowboy Rendezvous PRCA Rodeo. This year it included WPRA barreling racing and breakaway roping.
