The Governor's Cup was held September 26-28th at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. With a payout of over 1 million, this is a big one for those on the bubble trying to make The NFR.
Cole Franks took first in the first round of the bareback riding with his 87.5 point ride on Trooper (Barnes PRCA Rodeo) for $11,911. Rocker Steiner took first in the second round with his 87 points on Tequila Queen (Three Hills Rodeo) to net him $11,911. The battle between these two continued into the finals rounds with Cole Franks taking first in the semi-finals with his 88.25 point ride on SOS (Brookman Rodeo) and Rocker Steiner taking first in the finals with his big 88 point ride on Cosmic Stardust (Penthouse Pro Rodeo) to take home another $32,000.
Rowdy Parrott took first in the first round of the steer wrestling with his 3.3 second run to earn $11,911. Justin Shaffer took first in the second round with his 3.0 second run to net him $11,911. Shaffer stayed strong in the finals and tied for first in the semi-finals with Jesse Brown with both bulldoggers clocking 3.6 second runs followed by taking first in the finals for his 3.7 second run to take home another $32,000.
In the first round of the team roping, Luke Brown & Trey Yates took first for their 4.2 second run to bring home $11,911 each. Kaleb Driggers & Junior Nogueira took first in the second round for their 3.7 second run to net them $11,911 each. This pair stayed hot taking first in the semi-finals for their 4.1 seconds run and first in the finals for 3.8 run to bring take home an additional $32,000.
Statler Wright got it down the right way with an 87.25 point ride for first in the first round of the saddle bronc riding on Peacemaker (Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co) for $11,911. Quinten Taylor took first in the second round with his 87.25 point ride on Bottom Up Check (Powder River Rodeo) for $11,911. He also took first in the semi-finals for his 88.75 points on Damaged Goods (Championship Pro Rodeo). Dawson Hay took first in the finals with his huge 89.50 points on Moose (Burch Rodeo) for $32,000.
Shad Mayfield took first in the first round of the tie-down roping for his 7.8 second run to pocket $11,911. John Douch took first in the second round for his 7.5 second run to earn $11,911. There was a tie for first in the semi-finals between Dylan Hancock and Kincade Henry with both ropers stopping the clock at 7.5 seconds. Kincade Henry took first in the finals for his 7.4 second run to take home $32,000.
Megan McLeod-Sprague took first in the first round of the barrel racing with her 14.43 second run to earn $11,911. Hailey Kinsel took first in the second round for her 14.20 second run to net her $11,911. Tricia Aldridge took first in the semi-finals for her 14.38 second run. And in the finals Halyn Lide took first with her 14.38 second run for $32,000.
Cole Patterson took first in the first round of the steer roping with his 9.3 second run to net him $4,000. Chet Herren took first in the second round for his 11.8 second run to take home $4,000. Kelton McMillen took first in the semi-finals round for her 11.6 second run. First in the finals went to Chet Herren for his 9.7 second run to take home an additional $10,000.
There was a tie for first in the breakaway roping between Rylee A George and Taylor Munsell, with both ladies stopping the clock at 2.7 seconds to take home $10,422 each. There was also a tie for first in the second round between Martha Angelone and Aspen Miller, with both ladies clocking 2.4 second run to net them $10,422 each. Rylee George took first in the semi-finals for her 2.2 second run. Bailey Bates took first in the finals for her 2.1 second run to bring home $32,000.
Ky Hamilton took first in the first round of the bull riding for his huge 88.75 point ride on Muscle Man (Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co) for $11,911. There was a tie for first in the second round between Wacey Schalla on Boogeyman (Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co) and Scott Wells on Hokey Pokey (Fettig Pro Rodeo) with both riders scoring 87.75 point to bring home $10,422 each. Ky Hamilton absolutely dominated in the finals two rounds taking first in the semi-finals with an incredible 90.75 point ride for first on Puckered Up (Dakota Rodeo) and first in the finals for an even bigger 91.75 points on Cookies & Crème (Burch Rodeo) for an additional $32,000.
