Kade Sonnier had an incredible 88 point ride on a very powerful bronc for first in the bareback riding on Land of Fancy (Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics). Cooper Cooke took second with an explosive 87.75 point ride on Wild Thang (Cervi Championship Rodeo) with lots of big jumps to the right. Wacey Schalla took third with his 87.25 point ride on Native Lights (Dakota Rodeo). Great spurring and opening up by Schalla on that ride. Rocker Steiner's first horse Record Flight (Pickett Pro Rodeo CO) stumbled and he was offered a re-reride which he accepted on Sweet Tequila (Championship Pro Rodeo). He scored 80.25 points on that re-ride but was out of the money.
Ty Erickson had a fast 3.5 second run for first. Stetson Jorgensen had a strong run for second with his 3.8 second run. Jesse Brown took third with his 4.3 second run. Will Lummus and Kyle Irwin tied for fourth with 4.6 second runs. Dakota Eldridge had some tough luck as the steer not only got by him but trampled him as it got away to add insult to injury. Tyler Waguespack had another steer get away from him tonight when the steer stepped right. J.D. Struxness had a fast run but unfortunately got a no time due to a broken barrier.
Something must be in the water tonight in Vegas because the team ropers were on the hunt with multiple runs in the 3's. Tanner Tomlinson & Travis Graves stopped the clock at 3.4 second with a sniper of a heel shot. Clint Summers & Jade Corkill took a close second at 3.5 second with an absolutely electric run to start the event. Riley Minor & Brady Minor and Kolton Schmidt & Jonathan Torres tied for third with both teams stopping the clock at 3.6 seconds. There were two heartbreak runs. Luke Brown & Trey Yates would have taken first with a new arena record for their 3.1 second run but it was ruled a crossfire and no time. Dawson Graham & Dillon Graham also were also close to taking first with their 3.3 second run but a single leg penalty bumped them back to seventh.
Statler Wright had an incredible ride, matching the gorgeous gray horse called Renegade (Wayne Vold Rodeo) jump for jump to take first in the saddle bronc riding with 90 points. Kade Bruno took second with his 89 point ride on Frontier Medicine (Frontier Rodeo). Ryder Wright tied with Ben Andersen for their matching 88.25 point rides. But it was one yellow flag in the saddle bronc riding that has caused quite the controversy tonight in the rodeo world with the judges saying Stetson Wright missed his mark out. Rodeo fans and announcers were left stunned when the replay was shown which clearly showed Stetson spurs above the horse's shoulders. Stetson asked for a review but the ruling stood and his ride was given a no -score, which has prompted rodeo fans and his brother, Rusty Wright, to take to social media regarding the judging for the WNFR. Rusty posted the replay on his Instagram with the caption, "This is getting absolutely ridiculous these judges are literally robbing people of world titles and embarrassing the entire rodeo industry. Something has to be done about this."
In the tie-down roping, Shad Mayfield was off to a strong start but mistrung his calf which bumped him down to tie with Riley Webb for fourth place with 7.5 second runs. Joel Harris beat out Zack Jongbloed by.2 seconds with his lightning fast 6.8 second run to take first. Kincade Henry still had a fast time to take third with his 7.1 second run. Shane Hanchey had uncharacteristic double the bad luck on his run, first by breaking the barrier and then he mistrung his calf to get bumped all the way back to thirteen.
Hayle Gibson-Stillwell got the barrel racing off to an exciting start with her 13.49 second run on Piper to take third. Although she was out of the money and placed thirteen, Wenda Johnson had a much better run on Mo tonight around the second barrel which has been giving her trouble. Kassie Mowry had an incredible 13.42 second run on Cornbread to take first. Halyn Lide took second again on Pancakes with a 13.47 second run. This team is really starting to heat up and it will be fun to watch them over the next few rounds.
Stetson Wright may have gotten robbed in the saddle bronc riding but he got a bit of redemption taking first in the bull riding with a spectacular 88.5 point ride on Amasestays.com Insurrection (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) that got the Thomas and Mack rocking. Tristen Hutchings also had an aggressive 86.75 ride on a strong bull named Heartbreaker (Hampton Pro Rodeo). Hutchings tied with Qynn Anderson who also scored 86.76 on Evil Intentions (Rafter H Rodeo Livestock). JR Stratford took a hard buck onto his shoulders and neck and was seen hurrying out of the arena back to Justin Sports Med, possibly with a shoulder injury. Ky Hamilton also had a strong 85 point ride on Western Hauler's Caesar (Rafter G Rodeo) to place fifth.
