The Dodge City Roundup Rodeo kicked off July 29-Aug 2nd in Dodge City, Kansas. This year the weather decided to play nice so there was a final round. Last year unfortunately a severe thunderstorm popped up right before the championship round which left the arena unsuitable for the final perf and winners were selected based on the performance in the previous rounds.
In the bareback riding, Cole Reiner took first in the first round with a huge 89.5 points on Terry (Championship Pro Rodeo) for $4,132. Tim O'Connell took first in the final round with his strong 89.5 points on Gun Fire (Frontier Rodeo) for $1,650. The Kansas man, Jess Pope took first in the average thanks to his 87 point ride on Ranch & Crow (Championship Pro Rodeo), which earned him the lead with 176 points on 2 head to pocket $4,132.
Rowdy Parrott took first in the first round of the steer wrestling with his fast 3.6 seconds run to earn $4,059. Boyd Sawyer took first in the second round with his 3.8 seconds run to net him $4,059. Chance Howard took first in the final round with his 3.7 seconds run for $1,305. First in the finals went to J.D. Struxness for 12.6 seconds on three head to take home $6,089.
In the first round of the team roping, Tanner Tomlinson & Wesley Thorp took first with their 4.9 seconds run to net them $3,937 each. There was a tie in the second round between Kaleb Driggers & Junior Nogueira, Cody Snow & Lane Mitchell, and Nelson Wyatt & Jonathan Torres, with all three teams stopping the clock at 4.9 seconds to bring home $3,423 each. Clay Tryan & Will Woodfin took first in the finals with 5.4 seconds for $1,233 each. First in the average went to Tyler Tryan & Nicky Northcott, who had 16.7 seconds on three head to net them $5,905 each.
Skinny Parsons took first in the first round of the saddle bronc riding with his 88.5 points on Miss Charcoal (Double J Rodeo Company) for $4,185. Waitley Sharon took first in the final round with his 90.5 points on Rebel Yell (Championship Pro Rodeo) for $1,650. There was a three way tie for first in the average between Brody Cress, Waitley Sharon, and Dane McPhail, with all three riders scoring 172.5 points on two head to take home $3,255 each.
There was a tie in the first round of the breakaway roping between Shelby Boisjoli-Meged and Jordan Jo Hollabaugh, with both ladies clocking 2.4 seconds runs to pocket $2,502 each. Taylor Munsell took first in the second round with her 1.7 seconds run to earn $2,695. Jade Mitchell took first in the final round with her 2.8 seconds run for $1,996. First in the average went to Madison Outhier, who had 8.6 seconds on three head to net her $4,042.
Semaj Collins Jr. took first in the first round of the tie-down roping with his 8.1 seconds run for $4,282. Sam Lewis too first in the second round with his 7.2 seconds run to pocket $4,282. Blane Cox took first in the final round with his 8.5 seconds run to net him $1,276. First in the average went to Joel Harris for 25.9 seconds on three head to earn an additional $6,423.
Loralee Ward took first in the barrel racing with her 17.01 seconds run to win $2,676. Makenzie Mayes took first in the second round with her quick 16.92 seconds run to pocket $2,676, first in the finals for her 16.84 seconds run for an additional $1,982, and first in the average for 51.42 seconds on three head to take home another $4,014.
Jason Burson took first in the first round of the steer roping for his 11.2 seconds run to earn $1,778. In the second round, Riley O'Rourke took first with his 8.7 seconds run to net him $1,778. Cole Patterson took first in the third round with his 9.0 seconds run for $1,778. First in the average went to Coleman Proctor, who had 33.8 seconds on three head to bring home $2,666.
Hudson Bolton took first in the first round of the bull riding for his big 89.5 point ride on Riser (Rafter G Rodeo) for $4,340. Braxton Whitesell took first in the finals with a big 89 points on Conway (Championship Pro Rodeo) for $2,700. Colorado Kid Mackey took second in the finals with his 84 point on California Love (Frontier Rodeo), a bull which has only ever been ridden once before in 2023 by the legendary JB Mauney. He also took first in the average for 171 points on two head to net him an additional $4,730.
This year the total payout was $453,953. Frontier Rodeo provided the stock along with sub-contractors Championship Pro Rodeo, Corey Ross, Double J Rodeo Company, and Rafter G Rodeo. Shawn Calhoun and Dusty Moore were the pickup men and Nathan Jestes and Wacey Munsell provided the cowboy protection.
