California Rodeo Salinas
The California Rodeo Salinas was held July 16-19 in Salinas, California at the Salinas Sports Complex. This historic West Coast rodeo is a favorite among cowboys and cowgirls and with a payout of over $600,000, it's a must for those in the dash for the Wrangler NFR cash.
The Resistol Rookie Daxtyn Feild has looked anything but a rookie this season and took first in the first round of the bareback riding with his 85.5 points on Dixie's Gravy (Korkow Rodeos) for $7,922. Leighton Berry took first in the finals with a jaw dropping 90.5 point ride on Deep Springs (Four Star Rodeo) for $1,650, and first in the average for 175 points on two head for an additional $7,922.
Chance Howard took first in the first round of the steer wrestling with his quick 6.0 seconds run to earn $4,507. J.D. Struxness took first in the second round with his 6.2 seconds run to pocket $4,507. Cash Robb took first in the finals for his 7.1 seconds run to net him $1,180. First in the average went to Stan Branco for 23.2 seconds on three head to take home $6,760.
Cody Mora & Jason Johe took first in the first round of the team roping with their 7.6 seconds run to for $3,181 each. Jayse Tettenhorst & Belden Cox took first in the second round for their 6.9 seconds run to net them $3,181 each. Danny Leslie & Colton White took first in the third round for their 7.3 seconds run to bring home $3,181 each. First in the fourth round went to Erich Rogers & Cory Petska for their 6.4 seconds run for $3,181 each. Korbin Rice & Cooper Freeman took first in the finals for their for their 7.9 seconds to net them $1,639 each. Dawson Graham & Dillion Graham took first in the average for their 44.1 seconds on five head to take home $9,543 each.
Kolby Wanchuk took first in the first round of the saddle bronc riding for his 87 point ride on Frenemies (Korkow Rodeos) for $7,343. Ira Dickinson took first in the finals for his big 88 points on Diamond Fever (Corey & Lange Rodeo) for $1,650. Aussie Darcy Radel took first in the average for 173 points on two head to net him $7,343.
Cody Stewart took first in the tie-down roping for his quick 9.0 seconds run to earn $5,474. He also was awarded a check an additional $5,474 for all-around cowboy for entering the team roping and the tie-down roping. Kyan Wilhite took first in the second round for his speedy 8.7 seconds run to pocket $5,474. Shad Mayfield took first in the finals for his 9.2 seconds second to net him $1,320, and first in the average for 30.3 seconds on three head for an additional $8,210.
Michelle Alley took first in the first round of the barrel racing for her 16.00 seconds run to earn $3,214. Hayle Gibson-Stillwell took first in the second round for her 15.91 seconds run to pocket $3,214 and first in the third round for her 15.98 seconds for another $3,214. Tricia Aldridge took first in the finals for her 15.98 seconds run to net her $3,401, and first in the average for 64.40 seconds on four head for an additional $6,428.
There was a tie for first in the first round of the bull riding between TJ Gray on Stranger Danger (Four Star Rodeo) and Jace Trosclair on Uncorked (Corey & Lange Rodeo), with both riders scoring huge 89.5 points rides to take home $7,527 each. TJ Gray took first in the average for his big 87.5 points on Chuck's Boy (Four Star Rodeo) for an additional $2,050, and first in the average for 177 points on two head for an another $8,521.
The total payout this year was $628,191. Corey & Lange Rodeo provided the stock along with sub-contractors Rosser Rodeo, Four Star Rodeo, Steve Simons, John McGill, Bridwell Pro Rodeos, Flying U Rodeo, and Korkow Rodeos. Matt Twitchell, Jacob Stacy, and Jerad McFarlane were the pickup men and Josh Daries and Nathan Harp kept the bull rider safe.
