Canada kicked off their pro rodeo season this past weekend with the West of the 5th Pro Rodeo in Rimbey, Alberta with stock from Duffy Rodeo. Cache Schellenberg took first in the bareback on Sonora with an 80 point ride for $996. Sonora was Schellenberg's first horse when he started his amateur rodeo career. He had a bit of a rocky season last year, "so it's nice to get some money won early and get the confidence going this year."
In the bareback riding, Chase Siemens took first with an 80 points on Big O Rodeo’s Bobby Magee for $865. 6x Canadian Steer Wrestling Champion Cody Cassidy took first with a quick 4.1 second run for $1,895. Chase Skocdopole & Kolton Johnson took first in the team roping with a quick 5.1 second run for $1,649 each. Murray Pole took first in the tie-down roping with a 9.0 second run for $1,697. There was a four way tie for first in the barrel racing between Janet Moen, Lisa Warfield, Lynette Brodoway and Shelby Spielman who all had 14.82 second runs to take home $1,643 each. In the bull riding, Tanner Eno took first with a big 88.5 points on Smooth Sailor for $1,109. Walker Hutton and Kris Buffalo did a fantastic job keeping the bull riders safe.
