As they say in show biz, the show must go on and the COJO Championship Event was still held despite Cody Johnson being unable to attend due to emergency surgery just a few days prior. This event held in Belton, TX had several days of long rounds concluding Saturday with the short round narrowed down to sixty teams competing for a heft payout and prizes that included Cactus saddles, custom guitars, two Bill Filk Ford trucks, two Bloomer trailers, Kerry Kelly spurs, firearms, and Gist Silversmith buckles.
Saturday kicked off at 9 am with the Pro Am Celebrity Invitational where amateurs were paired up with pro ropers in two rounds followed by a short round. Kene Bracewell and Jeremy Buhler were awarded Pro Am heading champions. Korbin Rice and Mike Jones were awarded Pro Am Heeling Champion.
After the Pro Am Celebrity Invitation there was a break followed by the short round of the breakaway roping. Corlee Massey took first with 7.08 seconds on three head to take home $6,000. Dry Fire Cash, ridden by Harley Meged, was awarded Breakaway Roping Official AQHA Fan Favorite Horse.
Andrew Ward and Wesley Thorp took first in the first round of the short round with their lightning fast 4.63 second run. Dawson Graham and Jeremy Buhler took first the second round for their don't-blink-or-you'll-miss it 3.80 second run. Korbin Rice and Cooper Freeman too first in the short round with their quick 4.55 second run. And Kaleb Driggers and Jade Corkill were awarded The COJO Champions for their 14.25 second run on three head to take home brand new Ford F-350s from Bill Fick Ford, a Bloomer trailer, and $72,000.
