San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo

San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, one of the Texas Swing rodeos, was held April 4-18 in San Angelo, Texas. The Texas Swing Rodeos are a series of five PRCA rodeos that are viewed as crucial for those looking to make a run for the Wrangler NFR. With a purse of nearly $700,000, the top cowboys and cowgirls made their way to Texas once again to compete in hopes of taking away some of that prize money and giving themselves an early advantage in the dash for the cash to make it to Sin City.


Sage Allen dominated in the bareback riding, taking first in the first round with a big 89 point ride on Cosmic Stardust (Penthouse Pro Rodeo) to earn $7,040, first in the finals with an 89.5 points on Worth The Whisky (Pete Carr Pro Rodeo) for $1,650, and first in the average for 178.5 points on two head to take home an additional $7,040.


In the first round of the steer wrestling, Jesse Brown took first with a run so fast you'd think he'd entered the breakaway roping with a 2.9 second run to earn $6,628. Tyler Waguespack said hold my beer and took first in the second round with an fast 2.8 second run for $6,628. There was a three-way tie for first in the finals between Rowdy Parrott, Dalton Massey and Dakota Eldridge who all stopped the clock at 3.8 seconds to take home $1,570 each. Jesse Brown took first in the average for 10.7 seconds on three head for an additional $9,942.


Clay Tryan & Nicky Northcott and J.C. Yeahquo & Ross Ashford tied for first in the first round with both teams stopping the clocks at 3.8 seconds to take home $5,165 each. In the second round, Clay Smith & Coleby Payne took first with their 3.5 second run to earn $5,525 each. Manny Egusquiza & Walt Woodard took first in the finals with a 4.5 second run for $1,624. First in the average went to Kolton Schmidt & Will Woodfin for 14.0 seconds on three head to earn $8,287 each. Chet Weitz took all-around cowboy and a check for $6,749 for competing in tie-down roping and team roping. He also tied for eighth in the team roping with heeler Blake Walker II with their 4.1 run for $240 each.


There was a tie for first in the saddle bronc riding between Logan Hay, on True Gritt (New Star Pro Rodeo) and Zac Dallas, on Stacked Deck (J Bar J) with both having matching 87.5 point rides to take home a check for $6,275 each. Dawson Hay took first in the finals with a near flawless 90 point ride on Rough Motion (Pickett Pro Rodeo) to earn $1,650 and first in the average for 175.5 points on two head and an additional $7,104.


Kason Dyer took first in the first round of the tie-down roping with his 7.4 second run for $7,093. Ty Harris took first in the second round with a 7.0 second run to earn $7,094. Marty Yates took first in the final round with his 7.6 seconds run for $2,024. First in the average went to Shad Mayfield for 23.9 seconds on three head to take home $10,641.


In the barrel racing, Abby Fields was the fastest around the cans with her 15.70 second run for $10,942. Kassie Mowry took first in the second round with her 14.01 second run to earn $6,252, first in the finals for a 14.02 second run for$4,631, and first in the average for 44.11 seconds on three head to take home an additional $9,379.


Martha Angelone took first in the first round with her lightning fast 1.7 second run for $4,724 and first in the finals with another 1.7 second run for another $2,113. Summer Williams also had a quick 1.7 second run to take first in the second round and a check for $4,724. Bailey Bates took first in the average for 5.7 seconds on three head to take home $7,086.


In the bull riding, T.J. Gray dominated in every round starting with a big 89 point ride on Justified (Pickett Pro Rodeo) for first and a check for $7,033, then first again in the final round for his incredible 90 points on Red Dot (Pete Carr Pro Rodeo) for $2,700, and first in the average for 179 points on two head to take home an additional $7,033.


Stock was provided by Pete Carr Pro Rodeo with sub-contractors Bobby Joe Hill, Jeff Yates, Hampton Pro Rodeo, Korkow Rodeos, Macza Pro Rodeo, Legend Rodeo Stock, Rafter H Rodeo Livestock, Pickett Pro Rodeo Co, J Bar J, New Star Pro Rodeo, United Pro Rodeo, Stockyards ProRodeo, Aces Wild Pro Rodeo and Penthouse Pro Rodeo. Jake Dees and Jeff Dees were the pickup men and Clay Heger and Noah Krepps kept the bull riders safe.
