The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo kicked off in Mercedes, Texas, March 13-15. Wacey Schalla took first in the bareback riding with an 87.5 point ride on Brazos(Penthouse Pro Rodeo) for $4,406, eighth in the bull riding with his 80.5 point ride, and all-around cowboy for another $4,637. Cody Devers took first in the steer wrestling for his 3.5 second run for $3,715. Clay Tryan & Nicky Northcott took first in the team roping with their 3.9 second run for $4,035 each. Brody Cress took first in the saddle bronc riding for his 87.5 point ride on Molly Brown (Macza Pro Rodeo) for $4,301. In the tie-down roping, Richard Newton took first with his 7.6 second run for $4,829. Fallon Taylor was quickest around the barrels with her 15.48 second run for first and $5,338. There was a tie for first in the breakaway roping between Tori Brower and Ali Norcutt, with both ladies stopping the clock at 1.8 seconds for $5,220 each In the bull riding, Ky Hamilton is back and looking strong with an 88 points for first on Whistle Pig (TNT Pro Rodeo).
