Hurricane Helene absolutely devastated parts of southeastern North Carolina in September 2024. The destruction and loss of life was nothing sort of catastrophic. While government response was slow, inefficient, and left many in the area feeling their pleas for help were being ignored, the United Cajun Navy, a volunteer-based nonprofit organization providing disaster relief and support during emergencies, answered the call. They aided search-and-rescue operations, delivered supplies, and assisted in recovery efforts
Tennessee and the Carolinas are home to some of PBR’s athletes and fans, many of whom were were impacted directly or indirectly by the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. PBR teamed up with the United Cajun Navy for a day of service on Thursday, January 30, to assist with the massive ongoing recovery effort with bull riders, bullfighters, and front office personnel traveling to Asheville to assist with the restoration efforts of the Asheville River Arts District.
After the service project, PBR honored the incredible selflessness of those volunteers of the United Cajun Navy with their prestigious Be Cowboy Award during their PBR event on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. The Be Cowboy Award is presented to those who have truly exemplified the cowboy way, embodying the values of toughness, courage, respect, determination, community service, and patriotism in their daily lives. In addition, PBR donated $5 to the United Cajun Navy for every full-priced ticket purchased for the Greenville event via a link on the PBR website.
