The sun is still high in the Texas sky with hours to go before fans file in to take their seats and cheer on their favorite rodeo athletes. The bull riders have not yet made their way to the contestant area behind the chutes to stretching and prepare for their bodies for the battle with their bovine counterparts. The barrel racers are sneaking in some downtown in their rigs. The bull fighters have not yet started taping their fingers or strapping on their knee braces. But inside of the Cowtown Coliseum the dirt floor of the arena is buzzing with workers setting up for the night one of the Bulls, Bands, & Barrels Finals. And although you might mistake him for just another member of the ground crew, one of these men in overalls is none other than the CEO and President Hunter Price.
Bulls, Bands & Barrels is Hunter Price's vision brought to life- a new event in the rodeo world combining bull riding, bullfighting, and barrel racing with some of the top country music artists. And just like the company's motto "This Ain't Your Grandpappy's Rodeo" the goals was to bring something new and different to the Western lifestyle community to help attract new fans that might not go to a traditional bull riding or barrel racing event. BBB debut in 2013 and has continued to grow and expand each year, not only helping to create new rodeo fans but also giving more financial opportunities to rodeo athletes. And true to Price's vision some of the hottest new artist have performed at his events including Morgan Wallen, Koe Wetzel, and Tyler Childers.
But what many fans might not see is how Price leads from the front. They often say a company's culture and environment starts from the top down and he is great example of this. He does not sit behind his desk in a suit barking orders to his phone, far away from the action. He is in dirt carrying equipment and aiding in set up. He is in the arena during the action, quick to congratulate competitors on good rides or make sure they are promptly attended to by medical staff after a rough buck off. He is so excited after a good run you might mistake him for a barrel racer's husband or father. He is quick with a warm smile and an attitude that exudes how truly appreciative he is of everyone around him. This has created a company culture that feels more like family. There is no distinctive company ranking system. Everyone is helping out. Everyone is laughing and joking with each other. Everyone is grateful to be there and ready to do their part to make tonight's event the best possible from crew to competitors. This leadership is truly the magic sauce of Bulls, Bands & Barrels and what has made it so successful year after year.
