The Angelina Benefit Rodeo was held April 23-26 in Lufkin, Texas. This rodeo prides itself as one of the best in East Texas and has been going strong for over fifty years. It was officially sanctioned by the PRCA in 1986.
In the roughstock events, Colt Eck took first in the bareback riding with his big 88 points on Tator Tot (Korkow Rodeos) to earn a $4,230 check. In the saddle bronc riding, Chase Brooks took first with his 86.5 point ride on Over Scooped (Korkow Rodeos) to net him $4,174. There was only one qualified ride for the bull riding. Ramon De Souza took it all with his 84.5 points ride on High Noon (Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co) for a big $16,066 check.
Royce Johnson took first in the first round of the steer wrestling with his 4.1 second run to earn $1,028. J.D. Struxness took first in the second round with a 4.3 second run for $1,028. First in the average went to Gavin Soileau with 10.0 seconds on two head for a $1,542 check.
In the first round of the team roping, Colby Lovell & Ty Arnold rook first with their 4.9 second run for $1,180 each. Lightning Aguilera & Cox took first in the second round with a 3.5 second run to take home $1,180 each. First in the average went to Tanner Tomlinson & Travis Graves for 10.5 seconds on two head to earn a $1,770 check each.
Dillon Grote took first in the tie-down roping with a quick 7.6 second run for $1,558. Ace Reese took first in the second round with a 7.6 second run for $1,558. There was a tie for first in the average between Blane Cox and Marcos Costa who both had 18.0 seconds on two head to earn $2,135 each.
Sherry Cervi took first in the barrel racing with her 15.89 second run for a $2,480 check.
Stock was provided by Smith Pro Rodeos with sub-contractors New Star Pro Rodeo, United Pro Rodeo, JJ Miller, Jeff Yates, Bobby Joe Hill, Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co, Korkow Rodeos, Rafter G Rodeo, and TNT Pro Rodeo. The bull fighters were Austin Rudloff, Darran Robertson and Cody Emerson and Clint Hale and Tommy Pettit were the pickup men.
