On night one of the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour in Tulsa, Mortensen and Bunch had matching 84.5 point rides to take an early lead. The bulls were not playing nice in Round 1, with a nasty 85% buckoff rate that was making the riders work hard to make it to the next round. Only 6 riders were successfully able to make it the full 8 for a qualified ride. Mortensen was paired with Renegade (Hale/Vella/Ogden/Hart) and Bunch with Black Ops (Lucky Clover Cattle Ranch) which earned them 23 Velocity Global points each. Mason Ward took third with his 83.5 point ride on It’s Cherry (Halpain Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points, earning him 17 points. Fourth went to Pokey Houghton for his 76 points on All In (5AR Cattle Co./Allen/Lazy Bucking Bulls) for 8 Velocity Global points. Brandon Chambers took fifth with his 64.5 point ride on Patches (Torres Bucking Bulls/Lucky Clover Cattle Ranch). Also advancing to Round 2 was Guthrie Long who finished sixth and was only other rider to score a qualified with ride with 60 points on T-K T004 (Tom Baker Bucking Bulls) for 6 Velocity Global points.
Caden Bunch rode victorious going 3 for 3 to win Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his 83.5 point ride on Virg (Cross 33 Cattle/Daylon Swearingen) and 83 points on Bandito (Sho-Me Rodeo/Wyloh) for 148 points. Taking second and going 2 for 3 was Jaxton Mortensen who had an 81.5 point ride on Shakira (Folsom Point Bucking Bull) in Round 2 but couldn't last the full 8 second on Dirty Hairy Deeds (Campbell Cattle Co./Cannon Cattle Co.) and was sent into the dirt in a quick 1.58 seconds. Mortensen earned 80.5 points. Guthrie Long took third with his 80.5 point ride on TBR’s Rumple Minze (TBR/JX Bucking Bulls) for 56 Velocity Global points in Round 2. Andrei Scoparo took fourth place for his 85 point ride on Cutting Edges Bandit (Cross 33 Cattle/Daylon Swearingen) in Round 2 for 49 points. Tyce Willis took fifth with an 84 point ride on Moody Hou (Sappington Bucking Stock/Rafter G Rodeo) earning him 35 points.
The bulls stole the show both nights but Magic Money (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) was the top bucker of them all and awarded the Bull of the Event for his unmatched 45.5 points in Round 1 when he bucked off Ednelio Almeida in 6.06 seconds. There was also an ABBI (American Bucking Bull Inc.) Classic competition in Round 1 featuring 39 4-year-old bulls competing for part of the of $31,000 in prize money. Yahoo (Buck/D&H Cattle) won the ABBI Tulsa Classic event title courtesy thanks to his 90.4 point score from bucking off Brandon Chambers in 2.44 seconds.
