Lea County PRCA Rodeo

The Lea County PRCA Rodeo was held Aug. 5-8 at the Jake McClure Arena in Lovington, New Mexico. Erich Rogers was awarded all-around cowboy and a check for $2,785 for competing in the team roping and steer roping. There was a tie for first in the bareback riding between Leighton Berry on Medicine Show (Rafter H Rodeo Livestock) and Kade Sonnier on Cosmic Stardust (Penthouse Pro Rodeo), with both riders scoring 89 points to take home $7,940 each. There was a three-way tie for first in the saddle bronc riding between Brody Cress on Secret Agent (Pete Carr Pro Rodeo), Zachary Dallas on Toma Jo (Pete Carr Pro Rodeo), and Mitchell Story on Southpoint Gambl (Pete Carr Pro Rodeo), with all three cowboys scoring big 89 points rides to net them $6,953 each. Jace Trosclair took first in the bull riding with a phenomenal 91 point ride on Pay Day (Pete Carr Pro Rodeo) for $8,996.

In the first round of the steer wrestling, Chance Howard took first with his fast 3.7 seconds run to earn $3,521. There was a tie for first in the second round between Jesse Brown and Justin Shaffer, with both bulldoggers clocking 3.9 seconds runs to take home $3,291 each. First in the average went to Eli Lord, who had 8.2 seconds on two head to pocket $5,282.

Kaleb Driggers & Junior Nogueira took first in the first round with their quick 4.4 seconds run for $3,472 each. Ketch Kelton & Denton Dunning took first in the second round for their 4.0 seconds to net them $3,472 each. Derrick Begay & Colter Todd took first in the average for 9.4 seconds on two head to bring home $5,207 each.

In the women's events, Sydney Graham was fastest around the cans with her 17.13 seconds run to bring home $7,366. There was a tie for first in the first round of the breakaway roping between Rylee A George and Sawyer Gilbert, with both ladies stopping the clock at 2.4 seconds to net them $2,462 each. Hali Williams took first in the second round with her lightning fast 1.9 seconds to earn $2,651. There was a tie for first in the average between Danielle Lowman, Taylor Munsell, and Rylee A George, with all three ladies having 5.2 seconds on two head to take home $3,408 each.

Chet Herren took first in the first round of the steer roping with his 11.7 seconds run to pocket $2,546. Jarett Holliday took first in the second round for his 12.0 seconds run to earn $2,546. Kelton McMillen took first in the third round with his 9.6 seconds run for $2,546. First in the average went to Chet Herren, who had 37.9 seconds on three head to net him $3,820.

The total payout this year was $397,221. Pete Carr Pro Rodeo provided the stock along with sub-contractors Universal Pro Rodeos, Stockyards ProRodeo, Penthouse Pro Rodeo, Rafter G Rodeo, and Rafter H Rodeo Livestock. Jeff Dees, Jake Dees, and Preston Burr were the pickup men and Noah Krepps and Clay Heger provided the cowboy protection.
