Caldwell Night Rodeo kicked off August 18-22 in Caldwell, Idaho at the D&B Arena. With nearly half a million in payout, this was a big one for cowboys and cowgirls in the 4th quarter dash for the cash to make it to Vegas this season. One cowboy that left with his pockets a bit heavier was Traver Johnson, who took home the title of all-around cowboy and a check for $11,790 by competing in the tie-down roping and steer wrestling. He also tied for second in the first round of the steer wrestling with his 3.7 second run to earn $4,167, took third in the average with his 4.1 second run for another $865, and second in the average with 7.8 seconds for an additional $6,758.
Jess Pope has continued his hot streak taking first in the first round of the bareback riding with a big 88 points on Cloud Nine (Yule Rodeo) to pocket $6,089. Jacek Frost took first in the finals with a phenomenal 90.5 points on Great News (C5 Rodeo) for $1,650. First in the average went to Pope with 177.5 points on two head for another $6,089.
In the first round of the steer wrestling, J.D. Struxness took first with his fast 3.5 seconds run to earn
$5,181. Tyler Waguespack beat Struxness by just .3 seconds with his 3.4 seconds run to pocket $1,320. Struxness took first in the average with 7.2 seconds on two head to net him an additional $7,771.
Nelson Wyatt & Jonathan Torres got it done in 4.6 seconds to take first in the first round of the team roping to take home $4,604 each. The Graham boys, Dawson Graham & Dillion Graham, have continued to make their presence known this season and took first in the second round with a fast 3.9 seconds run for $4,604 each. Jake Smith & Douglas Rich took first in the finals with a 5.3 seconds run to net them $1,189 each. First in the average went to Nelson Wyatt & Jonathan Torres with15.4 seconds on three head to pocket $6,907 each.
Zachary Dallas absolutely dominated in the saddle bronc riding. He took first in the first round of the saddle bronc riding with a huge 90 points on Devi's Son ( C5 Rodeo) for $6,004, followed by a wild 92 point ride on Hangover Face (C5 Rodeo) for another $1,650, and first in the average with 182 points on two head for an additional $6,004.
In the first round of the tie-down roping, Ty Harris took first with his 7.2 seconds run to earn $6,353. There was a tie in the second round between Cash Hooper and Trenton Smith, with both ropers stopping the clock at 7.7 seconds to bring home $1,405 each. First in the average went to Ty Harris with 15.2 seconds on two head for another $9,529.
Sydney Graham took first in the first round of the barrel racing with her 16.71 seconds run to net her $5,711. There was a tie in the finals between Tricia Aldridge and Andrea Busby, with both ladies stopping the clock at 16.76 seconds to take home $2,115 each. Andrea Busby took first in the average with 33.74 seconds on two head to pocket an additional $5,711.
Shelby Boisjoli-Meged came to win it all in the breakaway roping, taking first in the first round with her 2.2 seconds run to earn $4,373, first in the finals with her 2.3 seconds run for an another $2,314, and first in the average with 4.5 seconds on two head to take home an additional $6,559.
Noah Lee, who has looked anything but a rookie in his first pro season, took first in the bull riding with an impressive 91 points on Jackie Moon (Powder River Rodeo) for a big $14,152 check.
The total payout this year was $487,276. Powder River Rodeo provided the stock along with sub-contractors Western Rodeos, Outlawbuckers Rodeo, C5 Rodeo, Jason Clemens, Casey Adams, Jace Honey, Big Stone Rodeo Inc, Rocky Mountain Rodeo, Yule Rodeo, and Burch Rodeo. Clint Humble and Tate Shepherd were the pickup men and Nathan Harp and Cody Webster kept the bull riders safe.
